Songling Wang

Songling Wang is a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a recipient of an award for outstanding service as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He currently serves as Dean of the School of Medicine at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Dean of the Southern University of Science and Technology-King's College London School of Medicine, and Dean of the SUSTech Homeostatic Medicine Institute (SHMI). He is also Director of the Beijing Laboratory of Oral Health at the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Capital Medical University.
Professor Wang is President of the China Anti-Aging Promoting Association, convener for the stomatology discipline of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and Chair of the National Stomatology Textbook Review Committee. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Oral Science and Homeostatic Medicine, Chinese Journal of Stomatology, Medical Education Management, and Today’s Stomatology.
He has published 494 papers, including 220 English-language papers as a leading author. As the first-ranked contributor, he has received two Second Prizes of the State Science and Technology Progress Award. He has also received the William J. Gies Award, the Wu Jieping Medical Innovation Award, and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Award.
Professor Wang discovered Sialin (SLC17A5) as a human nitrate transporter and Sialin2 as a nitrate sensor, revealing their important roles in maintaining homeostasis. He proposed the academic framework of Homeostatic Medicine and developed Nitrator, a nitrate-based therapeutic candidate. He has also uncovered new mechanisms of tooth development, developed a dental pulp stem-cell-based therapeutic product, and advanced biological tooth regeneration.
